All of our Horses and ponies here at Journey of Hope are rescues. Whether the owner surrender them because they could no longer take care of them or they we in very poor health and needed help, mentally or physically or was slaughter bound. We gave theses animals a second chance to make a difference in there community. We retrain them and make them therapeutic riding animals under strict guidelines. We never put a child on a horse or pony that we don't know how it will react.

"Therapy" pony all the way.

This is Jillian. She is an 17-year-old Pinto and a great therapeutic  pony. She loves everyone who comes in contact with her. Her favorite things are having the girls braid and string her hair. She loves giving assisted pony rides to the younger children. She does not mind just hanging out with you. If you could read her mind, she would tell you that 'she knows what her job is and stop bossing her around'. She will do anything for Autism and stands up for those who need a friend to lean on.
She was given to us because she hated to do shows and the show barn did not want her there. With a lot of ground work training she became our first therapeutic pony on our farm.

"Therapy" pony? No way!

Picture
This is Dallas. He is a 17-year-old Appaloosa. He acts like he does not like people but deep inside he is a sucker. He loves grooming and playing in the mud. He has devoted his life to special needs because he too is handicapped. Born with a bad club foot, he has helped at cancer camps and has worked with other disabilities. He loves to be finger-painted and given baths. He can be a little grouchy, but we still love him. He also is a great friend to lean on and tell your problems to. He is very tall, so his work with little children is limited; but his gentle nature and loving personality make him the therapy horse he is.  Oh, he is a great kisser too!  Kudos!

Lead the way!

Picture
This is Dakota, He is a 21-year-old Morgan cross pony.  He has been with us for almost 5 years now. He is the best at his job. Give him a group of children and he will ride them all day long. He loves pop tarts and Doritos. We could not do this with out him. Dakota came from a complicated situation. Dakota was given to us on trial and the owner made a unscheduled trip to heaven.  Dakota had a rough pass himself and with some re training he is one of our best Therapeutic Pony on the farm
